Will the Real Hoodia Please Stand Up?
People often become enticed by the hype of losing weight as they search for a quick fix. There is no quick weight loss solution, and concerning hoodia, there is only one variation of this cactus plant so far that is said to help people lose weight.
The “Real” Hoodia
If you want to count all 13 species of this cactus plant you could say there is more than one “real live” hoodia. However, of all of these it is only the hoodia gordonii that seems to make a difference.
This species of plant contains the P57 component which helps suppress appetite. So, how do people know that this claim is really true?
Of course, research regarding whether or not this plant is actually effective in this regard is still going on. However, it may interest you to know that since 1937 lab scientists have discovered evidence that it is a high possibility.
It also may be a surprise to you that at least one major newscaster actually went on scene to the part of the world where hoodia is mostly found (South Africa). What they have found as they nibbled on the heart of this plant is that this journalist went longer times without eating.
Research Complications
Although the news about hoodia is no modern secret (is actually an age-old local hunger curbing solution), the skepticism still exists. That is probably because it has only been made available in the Western Hemisphere in more recent years.
Furthermore, researching this plant also is very time consuming because of the fact that it takes five years to mature. It is only after this time that this cactus plant blooms and it is only after that time that it can be harvested.
However, since this is such a historical appetite suppressant the attempt to prove it is not likely to end. Besides, ever since ephedrine was banned people everywhere were looking for a far safer solution.
